UnrealI Randomness
OK. I really don't like UnrealI, but since Linux
is cool and UnrealI doesn't run under Linux, and I like tinkering...
-
First off, the salient point of this exercise: unreali-install.run (3.8M) - If you
have UT installed in Linux, and an UnrealI CD, put the CD in the drive
and run this baby. Last modifed 2002-12-09

Because AcidUT is so f***ing cool, and because I'm in control of this
installer, AcidUnreal is actually included in this distribution. Just
have a look at README.Acid.

In response to many questions:
-
I still don't like this game
-
Multiplayer. DM Works just fine between clients that are all /this/
client. ie, machines that are running UnrealI as is installed by the
installer on this page. It will not connect to genuine UnrealI servers,
as it's fundamentally a different piece of networking software.
-
CO-OP Apparently doesn't work, but as I've never played this game online
at all, ever, I can neither verify not contradict that claim. I think
that hacking at it until CO-OP works /MAY/ be within my humble grasp
once I have a working computer again.

In fact, straight from the proverbial horse's mouth:

We changed a ton of stuff between Unreal 1 and UT, including the binary
network stream format, and the layout of the gameplay classes. So let me
put it this way: It would probably be easier to get Unreal Tournament to
connect to a Quake server! :-)

The obligatory screenshots are
here. This page is fairly large as the thumbs clock in at 1.1M [there's
another page linked from that one].
Yes, I hijacked the UT splash screen.
For those of you who came here looking for something to to with Return
to Na Pali, another icculus.org devotee, this man, has made an
installer
available, based on some of the code found on this
page.
Muchos Kudos goes to:
-
Edward Rudd, for your unreal scripting expertise
-
Matt Matthews and Doug Dahl, for the inpiration for this whole exercise
-
Various others, mentioned in the README.Chunky
